Flinders/Pioneer Park 500th Event

Approximately 60 competitors helped celebrate Lincoln Orienteers 500th event by returning to the site of the very first event organised by the club in 1978. Today’s event started in Flinders Park but headed quickly into Pioneer Park where there were numerous controls placed strategically around the reserve. Orienteers had to pay close attention to the features on their map in order to correctly find their control, and the next section of map! Both the easy and hard courses proved to be an enjoyable challenge for both new and experienced orienteers alike. Please click on the link for results: Flinders/Pioneer Park Results

Later in the afternoon the group enjoyed a novelty event cleverly devised by Kevin to reflect on a selection of the previous 500 club events. Teams of competitors made strategic choices to collect points cards from various controls to end up with a history of Port Lincoln Orienteering and as close as possible to 500 points. The winning team was Bron, Portia, Cath and Elise with 499 pts. A close second was Alison, Darren and Elodie on 498 pts.

A big thank you to Kevin for a wonderful day, and for your enormous contribution to Orienteering!
