Warunda Creek – “Kev’s Last Caper”

June 18, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm

Join us for a special orienteering event at Warunda Creek. After over 50 years of course setting and mapping, Lincoln Orienteers founding member Kevin Vigar is hosting his last orienteering event.
There will actually be two separate events on the day. The morning’s event will be a re-enactment of one of the first orienteering events organised by Kevin in the 1970’s. This means a relatively featureless black and white map, six controls which you will need to copy from a Master Map, and coloured crayons in place of SI or punches!
The afternoon’s event will be on modern colour map, produced by Kevin, and it’s a score event with a difference. Over the years Kevin has produced many orienteering maps for Lincoln Orienteers, also maps around South Australia and interstate. How many has Kevin produced? Well, that is the basis of the afternoons score event. Each control has a different number of points allocated and it’s your job to firstly estimate how many maps Kevin has made (between 2 and 100) and secondly, collect that number of points from the controls on the map, in one hour. The closest or actual number will be the winner!
As a celebration of Kev’s significant contribution to orienteering, there will be catering available on the day in the form of a free sausage sizzle and cup of soup! (Please bring own cup and utensils). A BBQ plate and tea/coffee will also be available.
Event fees will be $5 for adults and $2 for children over 10 years. No charge for season pass holders.
